Leonie Hartley-Hoover of Stitching with Attitude created this remarkable art quilt as a donation for Foto/Fiber 2012, which benefits the American Cancer Society. She calls it Love You to the Moon and Back. I call it crazy quilting meets modern quilting meets bead embroidery. Whatever you call the technique, it’s lovely. Something lovely from scraps

Lisa of Ivory Blush Roses pieced together the usable parts of some antique white linens. From this beautiful fabric, some natural linen lining, and Maureen Greenson’s pattern, she created an armchair sewing caddy that’s almost too pretty to use. She says, “There weren’t too many spots that needed seam embellishment as I tried to use the original edges as much as possible. But where seam embellishment was needed, simple feather stitch variations did the trick!” Lovely. See more photos at Lisa’s blog post.

Take a class from Kathy Shaw

Our beloved Kathy Shaw of Shawkl is teaching two online courses in association with Maureen’s Vintage Acquisitions. She says,

Soft Sculpture Applique will cover how to create this lovely little teddy bear for crazy quilt projects. Or, it could be attached to a purse or baby’s bib…and instructions will include a pattern for a bunny, cat, and swan! So that’s like getting 4 classes for one price!

Beading Cabochons will cover how to surround a cabochon (or shank button) with beads and add beaded fringe. We’ll be beading three different cabochons…so we can learn 3 types of fringe treatment.

Oh, my! Look what Allie Aller is doing now! With permission, she is using a block design created by crazy-quilting star Carole Samples as the basis for a new quilt. (Her friend Val Bothell is doing the same–it’s a challenge between them.) Here is how the piecing turned out. Fabulous! I can’t wait to follow Allie’s embellishment adventure.
