I got this sweet note from Arlene White:

Fibers and Fabrics my craft group that I am a member of here in Townsville, Queensland, Australia has a challenge each year. Late last year we were given an object and from it we were to transform it into something else. The object was a tax book. I have started on my challenge project and wanted to share.

Curious, I immediately clicked over to her blog, having no idea what to expect. What I found: a gorgeous beaded stumpwork beetle, a fabulous beaded shisha lizard, and a dimensional tree with so much detail that I was hunting for an “enlarge” button so I could study it more closely. A scarf worthy of royalty

Kimberly of Baroque Embellishments was inspired to create this stunning scarf by a description of the embroidery adorning King Henry VIII of England’s coronation procession. (How I wish they’d had cameras back in those days!) This embroidery is probably more properly classified as stumpwork because it is dimensional and the leaves flutter! Di van Niekerk mentioned in her latest newsletter that her site includes a number of tutorials for silk-ribbon and stumpwork embroidery. I had to check them out immediately! There are lots of them, and they’re wonderful. Go to the tutes. The site is slow to load; but be patient–it’s worth it.
