I always enjoy writing book reviews and, after reading Jump Into Punch Needle by Carrie J. Buck, I was more than happy to write one for this book.
With 6 nature-themed punch needle projects to choose from, this book is written for beginners. However, the designs are so lovely that makers who have been doing this hobby for years will love them as well.
At the beginning of the book, you will find an entire section dedicated to the basics of punch needle embroidery. It includes information for all of the tools and materials used. Throughout the book there are detailed tips to help ensure that projects are successful.
Another section of the book illustrates the methods for getting started. You will learn how to trace a pattern, thread the needle, and punch the motif and background. To help the maker finish their project, there is an entire section dedicated to finishing the project.
After the reader has learned the basics, it is time to make one of the lovely projects. From a floral needle keep to a fox shoulder bag, each project is beautifully designed. There are even some alternative finishing ideas.
Every section of the book has detailed step-by-step instructions and tips. Not only that, but there is a helpful section on trouble shooting. I particularly like that because there are times when I get stuck on an area and can’t always find a solution.
Perfect for beginners, the easy-to-follow instructions will have the reader making one of these designs in no time. I can’t decide which project I like best because each one is so charming.
The author, Carrie J. Buck, has been designing fiber art patterns and teaching classes for many years and has been selling her works in many outlets.
Published by C & T publishing and available April, 2021, Jump Into Punch Needle has 50 pages, complete with color photos and illustrations. You can purchase this book on amazon.
