Elevating the trivial to art

Meri of Agulhas da Meri introduces us to Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos. Meri says, “In her sculptures and installations she plays with trivial objects and materials of daily life [such us doilies, knittings, pans, plastic cutlery (forks, knives and spoons) or even tampons!] giving them a sense and shape connected with traditional Portuguese values.” Remarkable!
