Looking a bit like a star burst, this poinsettia needlepoint ornament design from Nuts about Needlepoint is a small, but striking design. As a quilter, I love that it takes a quilt block design, transforms it to needlepoint project and makes it look like a flower.
It shimmers with all of the gold thread used in it, and the red in the blossom just pops. The designer used straight stitches throughout the project. The gold border is done using the straight gobelin stitch and the outside border is in the continental stitch. The entire project was made on 18 mesh needlepoint canvas.
The tutorial includes a stitch chart to help you out. Along with that, there is some guidance on the yarn that the maker used in her poinsettia ornament.
If you have pets, it’s nice to have non-breakable ornaments to hang on your tree. I can’t tell you how many times our dog’s tail wiped out one of our ornaments. Make one (or a few) of these, hang them near the bottom of the tree, and that problem is solved.
