Perfect as an introduction to ribbon embroidery, this forget-me-not flower pattern is lovely. Forget-me-nots appear throughout history. They were Henry the IV’s emblem. It is also said that the name comes from a German tale. According to the legend, a pair of lovers were walking along a river. When the man bent over to pick some of the flowers, he fell into the river. As he drowned he told his love “forget me not”.
Whether this story is true or not, the flower is beautiful and it’s captured beautifully in this design from Stitch Floral. The delicate blue flowers are done with a silk ribbon and the green leaves with hand dyed satin ribbon. The designer also uses some floss to add branches.
Ribbon embroidery is a nice way to add dimension to your embroidery projects. It gives designs a delicate look that is not always achieved with other types of embroidery. It is ideal for floral projects like this one.
If you are new to the technique, there is a link to a beginner’s guide. In addition, the designer provides detailed step-by-step instructions and photos to help you through the process. There is no printable pattern, however the photos show you where the stitches should go.

While you can use other kinds of ribbon, it’s best to work with silk because It’s lightweight and very fluid and can easily be manipulated into stitches.
