This is just a peek at an amazing work of fiber art by Leonie of Stitching with Attitude. Motivated by a challenge to create an artwork in any medium inspired by a science fiction novel, Leonie got her first taste of scifi, Wool by Hugh Howey. She interpreted the post-apocalyptic theme by shredding batiks and recomposing them into a new fabric for the background of her piece. Then she used embroidery, found materials, beads, a variety of tidbits to express the mood and themes within the story. A series of posts walks us through her creative process. Start at the beginning and enjoy them all! Bonus: Leonie is giving away a copy of the book that inspired this art. (Enter before March 11.)

Leónie, very cool! I love all the glommed on stuff, uh, i mean the deep symbology of the inspired use of found objects.
