With the election coming up in a few days here in the United States, I thought that this was a fitting hand embroidery project to bring to you. This “Vote” pattern is a festive way to show off your patriotic spirit.
Did you know that it was not until 1845 that a fixed election day was set in the United States? It was made on the first Tuesday of November so that voters didn’t have to travel on Sundays and that they would be home on Wednesday, which was market day. It sometimes took a day just to get to the polling place!
For this project you’ll need basic hand embroidery supplies including canvas, an embroidery hoop, floss and a needle. There are four stitches used including; the chain stitch, french knots, the satin stitch, and the star stitch. That is the one that makes the sweet little silver stars you see in the photo. You will find links to tutorials for all of the stitches in case you need a refresher.
A small project, the tutorial suggests using a 3″ embroidery hoop, but the pattern could easily be adjusted to make it larger.
Show off your red, white and blue spirit with this charming hand embroidery pattern. You can find it here: Election Embroidery Project
