A design legacy

You’ll enjoy the brief but insightful article on the Etsy blog about Swedish designer and weaver Märta Måås-Fjetterström, who blazed a trail for contemporary and female textile artists in the early 20th century and left a rich legacy of designs and techniques that are still used in the studio she founded.     You can read a little more about her and the company at their website: http://www.mmf.se

    It doesn’t say so in the Etsy article, but Märta’s studio since 1919 can be found in Båstad, not Malmö, and employed women from around the Bjäre peninsula (where the town of Båstad can be found and where I live). My aunt worked as a weaver at the company — after Märta Måås-Fjetterstöm’s death I believe — for some years, ages ago by now. She has a big, appearantly very valuable, carpet as a memento from that time.
