I am amazed and thrilled by the work of Judith Scott, profiled on grrl + dog. Judith, who is deaf and has Down syndrome, discovered fiber art in her 30s. The blog post says,
So obviously uninfluenced by outside stimuli, her creations are wrapped, gathered, knitted and bound…She used whatever she could find, and her objects are buried deep under layers of wool, knotted fabric and string, like a gift…Judith had found her medium–the language with which to communicate.
See more wonderful photos and read grrl’s thoughtful assessment of Judith’s work.
