Blooming Rose: Free Smocking Plate

July 9, 2019 by Shellie Wilson 1 Comment

Add a touch of DIY smocking to your next project with the Blooming Rose free smocking plate! Designed for the advanced beginner, Blooming Rose is a fun and simple way to try picture smocking. Did you know smocking isn’t just for appearance it is also used to allow the fabric to stretch? Which is why you see it around the neck hole, allowing it to go over the head.

The art of smock-making is slowly dying out, but it is an important skill that every sewer should learn. Not only is it an interesting craft, but smocking also has a lot of practical uses. For example, it can be used to cover a garment when it is not in use, or to make a garment more protective against the elements.

One of the main reasons why smocking is slowly becoming a lost art is because it is a difficult skill to learn. However, there are still a few schools that offer classes in the art, and it would be a shame if this skill went extinct. Not only is smocking interesting to watch and learn, but it is also a very practical skill.
