Book Review: The Quilting Arts Book

February 19, 2009 by Denise Felton 5 Comments

If you love Quilting Arts TV, you’ll have to buy The Quilting Arts Book. It is introduced by Pokey Bolton, editor in chief of Quilting Arts Magazine and host of Quilting Arts TV. But the nearly three dozen articles that make up the book are authored by artists we’ve gotten to know as their work has been featured on the television series: Linda and Laura Kemshall, Lyric Kinard, Judy Coates Perez, and many, many others. The topics offer timely yet timeless advice about the important considerations in making art quilts. Every word is worth reading and every photo worth studying; but if I have to pick a favorite part of the book……well, I can’t pick. Maybe “Embellishment and Mixed-media Quilting.” No, “Surface Design Techniques.” Never mind. They’re all my favorite. If you love art quilts, they’ll be your favorite, too.

The book retails for US $24.95, and it’s available from Amazon.com. ISBN 978-1-59668-099-9.

Apart from everything else, Quilting Arts seems to have a gift for typography and page design. I find myself reading articles on techniques that have zero appeal (at least for me” simply because the presentation is so enticing.
