DIY organizer for embroidery floss

March 5, 2012 by Denise Felton 2 Comments

Leah of Zombies Wearing Helmets wanted a new system for storing her embroidery floss. But not just any old system. She says it had to meet these requirements:

*Skeins should be in numerical order.
*Colors should be easy to see at a glance.
*Floss should be protected from dust and dirt.
*Putting floss away should be quick and easy.
*Adding new skeins should be simple.
*System should be compact and able to store on a shelf.
*It should be relatively cheap.
*All of the above without being complicated.

Her solution is epic! Go to her blog post to see how she did it.

I like that way to organize embroidery thread, because the cards and also clothespins make it too tight and it gets wound up and therefore tangles easily when you are embroidering.

I use SCREW/Nail Drawers with clear acrylic drawers (purchased at a hardware/Lowe’s/Home Depot). The clear drawers let me see the colors. I use a small sticker on the corner of the front of each drawer to put the number or numbers of the skiens inside. I purchased three with 36 drawers each. WORKS WONDERFULLY…and I FEEL SO ORGANIZED!
