The latest freebie from Emma Broidery at DMC Thread’s Blog looks like a really fun project. It is called “In Vino Veritas” and it taken from an old Latin phrase that is attributed to Pliny the Elder and translates to In Wine is Truth according to Emma. The sampler is worked using basic surface embroidery stitches like stem stitch, satin stitch, and buttonhole stitch. After you stitch the design and wash out the markings on the fabric, you color it in using the suggested wax-based pencils. (The materials you need are listed in the blog.) In this way you get a lot of color and detail in a short time. The pattern is presented in pdf format. Learn more.
