Donate needlework for bushfire communities

Maggie Bauer, publisher of Country Bumpkins Publications, sent this message through her newsletter to those who are looking for an opportunity to lend support to communities affected by the Australian bushfires:

We have started accepting donations to pass on to the needlework guilds and Country Woman’s Association in and around the affected areas of flooding and fires in Australia. Please ensure all donations reach us by the 1st of June 2009.

Country Bumpkin
Natural Disaster Relief
315 Unley Road
Malvern, South Australia, 5061
Australia

Please be aware of the weight of your donation and do not send books or large heavy pieces of equipment like floor frames or lamps.

Suggested donations include: threads, ribbons, lace, fabric, kits, patterns, hand hoops, thimbles, packs of embroidery needles, small scissors, pin cushions, fabric markers, transfer paper, small packs of beads, thread cutters, etc.

Please only send new or very gently used supplies, not partially vompleted projects or worn, used items.

I have also been thinking that you may like to make some beautiful embroidered winter blankets and special baby and little girl dresses so that those who have lost so much can have something made personally for them. It must be difficult to have no choice but to wear second-hand clothing and I would love to be of service in this way.

Learn more about this effort, including the Christening Gown Project, at the Country Bumpkins web site.
