Free Hand Embroidery Doily Hoop Art Pattern

September 20, 2020 by Claudia Porter Leave a Comment

These charming and unique doily embroidery patterns from 5 Little Monsters are definitely not your grandmothers’ doilies.  Don’t get me wrong, I love my grandmother’s doilies, and I display some of them proudly.  I’ve always been amazed at how incredibly detailed they are, and they are a nice remembrance as well.  I remember watching her nimble fingers turn a simple ball of yarn into an intricate round decoration in, what seemed to me, no time.

That is why these designs caught my eye.  I can’t crochet, but I can embroider.  So, while I can never match the expertise of my grandmother, I could handle making this kind of doily.

The designs are downloadable and the designer gives detailed descriptions of the process. The larger pattern fits in an 8″ embroidery hoop while the smaller ones fit in 5″ and 4″ hoops.  She uses a chain stitch and a straight stitch to make them.  I particularly like the pastel backgrounds she used, and I can picture the pink one adorning the wall of a new baby girl.  Of course, these would look lovely in any color combination.

You can’t go wrong with any of the three different designs and sizes that are provided in this free hand embroidery doily pattern.
