Mary Corbet over at Needle ‘n’ Thread blog is sharing an alphabet for hand-embroidered monograms that she’s salvaged from La Broderie Blanche, a French embroidery magazine published in 1912. As always, Mary is also offering lots of tips and suggestions for using these beautiful letters. You can download the first pattern, the sumptuous A shown here, by right-clicking the image in this blog post. Then click Save picture as to download it to your hard drive. The rest of the alphabet will follow as Mary gets the images cleaned up for us, so be sure to bookmark her blog. Thanks, Mary!

I am looking for alphabet fonts to hand embroidery. I can not find anything locally as I assume hand embroidery is a thing of the past. I try to make things for my grandchildren and personalize them.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Mackie! The site referred to in this blog post, Needle ‘n’ Thread, has many resources that you may find helpful. The Pattern Index page (http://www.needlenthread.com/2006/06/free-hand-embroidery-patterns-index.html) has more monogram fonts as well as other patterns you may enjoy. And take a look at the Embroidery Links page (http://www.needlenthread.com/2006/06/embroidery-links-great-sources.html) for referrals to other sites that may meet your needs.
All best,
Denise

I’ve been asked to embroider some words on a wedding gift wall hanging.
The letters can’t be much more than 1cm high, and preferably in a Gothic script.
Do you think this would work in satin stitch?
If not, any ideas?
