Tatting is a technique for handcrafting a particularly durable lace from a series of knots and loops. Tatting can be used to make lace edging as well as doilies, collars, Jewelry and many more items.

Tatting may be traced back to ancient Egypt and China. Popular in Europe throughout the 18th century, immigrants then carried the art to America, where it became popular. is a very old art form. Lace is created by looping and knotting a single strand of thread on a tiny shuttle.
