From Zeshuregi: Hooked embroidery

October 6, 2010 by Denise Felton 4 Comments

Zeshuregi of Creative Mind blog creates gorgeous garments, lavishly embroidered with threads, sequins, and beads using a technique similar to tambour embroidery. In a personal note, Zeshuregi told me,

This is not a tambour embroidery, but really seems like that. This hook is just like a crochet hook, but it’s having a very slim needle. I am sending you the close image of my hook.

Fascinating! This is the first time I’ve seen this technique, but I hope it won’t be the last. See detailed photos at Zeshuregi’s blog. And be sure to add her to your blog reader — she promises a tutorial sometime soon.

Tambour embroidery is a centuries-old craft that is still popular today. It’s a type of needlework that uses a special hook to stitch intricate, delicate patterns into a variety of fabrics.

Tambour embroidery is perfect for adding special accents to clothing, accessories, and home décor items. To get started, you’ll need to acquire the necessary supplies, like fabric, thread, needles, and an embroidery hoop.

Once you have the basics, you can start experimenting with Tambour embroidery patterns. There are a variety of pre-made patterns available, or you can create your own! After that, you simply need to practice and perfect your technique. With a little patience and practice, you’ll be creating beautiful Tambour embroidery pieces in no time.

[…] Remember the lovely hooked embroidery Zeshuregi shared with us? She has posted a tutorial so we can understand the technique and, perhaps, attempt it ourselves. This style of embroidery seems like a cross between stitching and crochet. I have some nearly microscopic crochet hooks that my mother used when I was a child, and they should work perfectly. I’ve got to try my hand at this! See more on Zeshuregi’s Creative Mind blog. […]
