The Christmas bug has bitten me early this year. My favorite Christmas memory is getting to open our grandparent’s gift on Christmas Eve (the only gift we got to open). Our gifts were always flannel pj’s and we always wore them to bed that night, and woke up early to open the rest of our gifts, snug and warm in our new pajamas. Thanks!

It is a three-way tie. Christmas 1969 when my soon-to-be husband proposed, Christmas 1976-the first with our infant son, and Christmas 2010-the last with my husband of 40 years before I lost him to brain cancer.

My favorite Christmas memory is the year we bought dining room chairs. They arrived right before Christmas and the kids (then 4 and 6) spent the whole holiday break playing in the boxes. No gift they got that year from Santa was as cool as six large chair boxes.

With all my cousins, wearing our new PJ’s on Christmas Eve for a sleepover at our Czech great-grandmother’s house. It usually snowed, too!

One of my favorites was coming home from Midnight mass and making a warm batch of cookies for “Santa” with my six younger siblings. As we got older we still did this as a way to catch up with each other and now we do this with our own families.

Our family has always enjoyed jigsaw puzzles. To this day our favorite Christmas tradition is opening a new puzzle on Christmas Eve for everyone to work on during Christmas Day.

I had moved out of state and hadn’t been back to visit my family for the holidays for three years. I showed up without telling them on Christmas Eve. I turned out to be my Fathers last Christmas.

My favorite Christmas memory is seeing my kids faces light up on Christmas morning when they thought there would be no gifts. Through the generosity of a friend, I was able to get them each a few gifts. I’m do blessed by family and friends.

One of my favorite Christmas memories was the year my dad was laying under the decorated tree, adjusting the base to make the tree stand up straight. Well, the tree fell over and landed on top of him and all that was sticking out was his feet! But then my mom started yelling “My ornaments! My ornaments! Are my ornaments ok!?!?” And my dad just laid there and mumbled from under the tree, “Um, a little help here….” We still laugh about that to this day!

One year when I was little, my grandpa dressed as Santa and woke us up. We wanted grandpa to meet santa but he was gone delivering a calf on his farm.

My favorite memory is of the celebrations my extended family had for several years. We rented a rustic cabin in a nearby state park, slept in sleeping bags on bunk beds, cooked on a small propane stove, used an outhouse, and decorated a small tree we brought in with handmade ornaments. Gives were exchanged white elephant style. The best of times!!!

My favorite christmas memory is two years ago when all my family got together on christmas eve. We watched christmas movies and laughed. We don’t see much often so it’s always special to have a nice family time!

One year i was in Jr. High and I woke up in the middle of the night as i often do and got up and checked the living room for presents to see if my parents had been ‘santa’ yet and didn’t see anything out of the ordinary by the tree and so went back to bed. As i lay awake waiting for sleep to come i heard thuds up above!?!? like someone was chucking rocks upon the roof…or hooves were landing!?!?! and what sounded like far off jingle bells from a sleigh…thinking i had lost my mind i lay there silently holding my breathe. what seemed like forever finally passed and i snuck out of my room once again and this time flipped on a light in the living room to see how i could have NOT seen things before when i squinted in the dark. Still thinking i had must have dozed off and dreamt the noised and NOT seen the shadow shapes in the earlier dark living room i went back to bed. I only shared this story with one very cute guy friend when he called me the next afternoon to wish me a very Merry Christmas we both had a very good laugh…but the MAGIC and WONDER of Christmas was reborn in my cynical teenage heart again and has luckily lived safe and warm there ever since 😀 <3 Merry Magic and Wonderous Christmas to You and Yours!!!

my fave christmas memory is from when i was about 4. we used to travel to my grandma’s house and all of the aunts and uncles were there with their wives and children. it was a packed house! i have about 8 aunts and uncles and they all had at least 1-2 kids at that time. i remember everyone was rambunctious and it was lively and fun. it took forever to hand out gifts, but it was awesome to take turns. i remember receiving hand-made gifts, mostly, including a large jar of playdoh and a handmade doll which i named annabelle and i still have today – nearly 30 years later. this is my daughter’s 4th christmas and i hope she has such lovely memories of christmas and family as i do.
