Mary Corbet of Needle ‘n’ Thread blog shares photos of some awesome work by one of her readers, which entails embroidering directly on wood boxes. Mary says,
Using pre-made, unfinished wooden boxes purchased at a craft store, Sue and her husband sanded and painted the boxes. Then, using a design for paper embroidery, Sue marked out the stitching holes. Using a fine-tipped Dremel drill, they drilled all the tiny holes used for the stitching. Then, using metallic threads, Sue stitched the designs onto the box lids following the holes made by the Dremel drill. She lined the inside of the box with matching craft foam to cover up the stitching.
Brilliant! And aren’t the results gorgeous! Go to Mary’s blog post to find out more.

Awesome! I read about a guy who did wood quilting, but his was burning in the stitches, not actual quilting. I like the mixing of this method. Makes a great team craft for a couple.
