Pamela Kellogg of Kitty and Me Designs explains how to clean quilts that cannot be washed — such as those delicate, intricate crazy quilts and art quilts. The solution is so simple! See her post.
Quilts may be dried on a mild cycle/air-dry setting without using heat. By eliminating dust and grime from the front and back of a quilt, you may help it last longer. Place a nylon hose or net over the end of a vacuum hose and gently pull the hose over the surface of the quilt without touching it.
Begin by spreading out your quilts on a towel on the floor. Decorative quilts, for the most part, are dusty. Remove any surface dust from the item with your vacuum cleaner hose and a piece of plastic canvas. A barrier is formed by the plastic canvas. Spot washing is the most effective approach to refresh the blanket without using a lot of water. Use a very mild detergent such as Ivory Liquid or Orvus.
Dry-cleaning is not recommended for handmade quilts. Repair any unraveling stitches or rips first. Wet a white cloth and dab it on each of the colorful materials to test for color fastness. Quilts constructed before the Great Depression sometimes contain fabrics whose colours run, particularly yellows.
