How To Make A Fabric Rope Rug

January 7, 2017 by Shellie Wilson Leave a Comment

I am sharing this tutorial because it’s a great tutorial with lots of step-by-step details,  personally, I would not have the patience to make something like this.

These are the type of Crafts I would buy from a market or booth. I admire anyone who has the patience to make these rope rugs. The best thing about these rugs is they are perfect for under your Needlework chair.

How to make a fabric rope rug.

Here are the basics for making a rug, but check out the tutorial above for detailed photos and tips and tricks for making your own rope rug.

Making a Rug with Rope and Fabric

Looking to add a bit of rustic elegance to your space? A rug made with rope and fabric is a great way to do just that! Rope rugs are especially popular in contemporary settings, as they add a touch of something old-fashioned without being too dated.

To make a rug with rope and fabric, you’ll first need to gather your materials. You’ll need a length of rope, enough fabric to cover it, and some sewing supplies.

To cover the rope with fabric, start by cutting the fabric to the desired length. Make sure to allow enough fabric for sewing, as well as a few inches extra all around.

Then, start sewing the fabric onto the rope.  Then once the rope is covered sew the covered rope into a mat. Make sure to sew it in a circular pattern, as this will create the rug’s mat-like appearance.

Alternatively, you can simply leave the rope bare (with no fabric) it as is and enjoy the natural texture and look of the rope rug.
