This stunning fabric-and-embroidery collage, Upright Head, is the work of Deidre Scherer. Her web site describes her art much better than I can. She says,
My fiber work focuses on the universal issues of age and mortality. By honoring the framework of aging and seeing death as a natural part of life, my figurative images lift the invisibility that surrounds these subjects. This work starts a dialogue that is essential to our times and supportive to all who are working or living in the field of great age.
Using fabric and thread as my primary medium, I combine the techniques of cutting, piecing, layering, and machine-sewing to produce a rich, tactile surface. The classification of my work crosses the disciplines of craft, quilting, assemblage, collage and fine art.
Prints of Scherer’s works are available for 15% off through December 15. Originals also are available. See her site.
And many thanks to Di Overton of Designers’ Block blog for pointing out Deidre’s art.
