John Hopper has an excellent article on The Textile Blog about the lace work of Dagobert Peche in the early 20th century. A sample of Peche’s work is shown in the top image. When I saw it, I couldn’t help thinking of the current lace work of Penny Nickels (an example is shown in the lower image). To me, Penny’s work seems more beautiful and edgier, but Peche’s was edgy for his time. Check out John Hopper’s post. And go poke around Penny Nickels’ Donkeywolf blog.
