Blogging about needlework is giving me an education. There are so many techniques and variations that I didn’t know I didn’t know. One technique I’ve seen mentioned several times lately is kumihimo, a Japanese weaving technique that requires special and (to Western eyes) unusual equipment.
Mary Corbet of Needle ‘n’ Thread blog to the rescue. Mary not only has heard of kumihimo – she has the equipment, and she knows how to use it. The device shown here is Mary’s marudai, the “loom” on which the weaving is done. See Mary’s blog post for more photos and her description of weaving a fine cord on the marudai.
