Until I saw this pattern book from Annie’s Craft Store, I was not familiar with Monk’s Cloth or Swedish Weaving (sometimes known as Huck embroidery). Now that I know a little bit more about it, I’m intrigued. It’s a technique that combines embroidery and weaving on top of monk’s cloth. That is a special type of cloth that allows you to embroider on top, so that the stitches don’t show on the back.
Some special tools, such as a yarn needle, yarn, and monk’s cloth are needed for this type of embroidery. From afghans to table runners, you can make all sorts of stunning items with this technique.
This 28 page book, “Monk’s Cloth Afghans for Christmas”, has 10 designs for you to choose from. It also has a how-to section for those who are just learning this process. Included in the book are eight stitch charts including:
- Straight stitch
- Figure eight stitch
- Slant stitch up
- Variation A of a figure eight stitch
- Variation B of a figure eight stitch
- Loop stitch
- Slant stitch down
- V stitch
Whether you are already familiar with this type of embroidery, or you want to try your hand at a new technique for the holidays, this pattern book is for you.
