A post on Pimp Stitch blog made me think about the haphazard way I store some of my embroidery floss. So many cool tools are available! Pimp Stitch walks us through some of the popular and new options, and ponders the pros and cons of each. I admit that I felt just a big smug when I got to the end of the article and found that the old, inexpensive standby – floss box and bobbin cards – had the fewest cons. Some of my floss is stored this way, and I love my floss box. (Since I seldom choose floss by color number, I lay my bobbins on their sides so I can see the color array more easily.) Now, all I have to do is get all those tangled skeins out of the big plastic zipper bag of doom, wind them up on bobbins, and put them away neatly. Maybe tomorrow…

I also store my floss 90 degrees from the way in this photo b/c I chose by color, not number. I rarely do pre-packaged projects so color number storage isn’t as efficient as shade for me. But I do like the bobbins b/c it stores so compactly & doesn’t tangle. The winder is a godsend 😉

I love my bobbins. I just recently took my hoard of floss to Australia on vacation so I could work on a project and ended up coming home with it all neatly organized. I love seeing all of those wonderful colors and not the mess of tangles I was dealing with before.
