Spotlight on Emerging Embroidery Artists: Alicja Kozowska’s Contemporary Stitching

April 8, 2025 by Shellie Wilson 1 Comment

If you think embroidery is all about delicate floral patterns and vintage linens, think again. Alicja Koz?owska is flipping the script on traditional textile art, turning everyday objects into bold, playful, and thought-provoking embroidered sculptures. Her work isn’t just about stitches—it’s a conversation between pop culture, consumerism, and craftsmanship, all sewn together with an incredible eye for detail.

Alicja Koz?owska is a contemporary textile artist who takes embroidery beyond the hoop, creating three-dimensional, hyper-realistic fabric sculptures. Instead of traditional portraits or floral motifs, she stitches soft, plush versions of everyday consumer goods—think crinkled snack wrappers, soda cans, and fast-food packaging. Her work is a clever nod to modern consumer culture, turning disposable items into something lasting and thought-provoking.

If Andy Warhol had picked up a needle and thread, his work might have looked a lot like Koz?owska’s. Her art takes mass-produced, throwaway items and immortalizes them in fabric, forcing us to rethink the value of what we consume. Her embroidered Coca-Cola cans, McDonald’s fries, and torn-up receipts are both playful and critical, making us pause and reconsider the everyday objects we usually overlook.

Koz?owska’s work has gained international recognition, with exhibitions in galleries across Europe and beyond. Her art speaks to both embroidery enthusiasts and contemporary art lovers, proving that needlework can be just as bold and thought-provoking as any other medium.

In an era of fast fashion and disposable goods, Koz?owska’s work feels particularly relevant. By painstakingly recreating temporary objects with such permanence and care, she challenges us to look at the things we consume—and discard—with fresh eyes. It’s a reminder that even the most mundane objects have stories to tell.

Alicja Koz?owska is proof that embroidery isn’t just a craft—it’s a powerful form of artistic expression. Her ability to transform everyday objects into stitched masterpieces shows that needlework can be just as rebellious, thought-provoking, and culturally relevant as any other contemporary art form.

If you’re as fascinated by Koz?owska’s work as I am, check out her latest pieces and exhibitions online. You might never look at a crumpled candy wrapper the same way again!

This is so cool! Alicja’s work is like Warhol meets embroidery. I wonder how she decides which everyday items to transform next?
