Punch Needle Santa Hat Ornaments Tutorial

December 6, 2020 by Claudia Porter Leave a Comment

Few Christmas symbols are more iconic that Santa’s hat.  That bright red stocking cap with the big white rim and pom pom can’t ever be mistaken for anyone’s hat but the big guy’s.  That is why this adorable punch needle embroidery hoop pattern from Chicken Scratch NY is perfect for the holiday.

What I really like about this tutorial is that the designer shows off two different loop lengths to get different textures.  Those two looks really change up the ornaments.

Made with 3 inch wooden embroidery hoops, these are small projects that should come together quickly.   To make them, you will need standard punch needle supplies.  The tutorial shows you how to make them and includes a downloadable Santa hat pattern suitable for tracing. The whole project is finished off with a twisted embroidery floss hanger.

If you are new to punch needle work, you will find a link to a tutorial teaching the basics of the craft.

I can’t decide which look I like better, the one with the longer loops or the one with the shorter ones.  Decisions….decisions.
