Elizabeth of Sew in Love has been working on a Stumpwork Dragonfly and in part of the process, she includes a tutorial for raised padded stem stitch band. In this case, she is using it to create the dragonfly’s body, but I am sure you could come up with other uses for this stitch whether in stumpwork or other embroidery applications. Go check it out!

Not sure what stumpwork is? Stumpwork or raised work is a style of embroidery where the stitches are raised of the workpiece to create a dimensional effect to the embroidery work. Stumpwork embroidery can also use wire, to create added effects, such as dimensional leaves, butterfly wings and more.
