I haven’t tried this myself, but I’m fascinated. Persona has posted a tutorial on Instructables.com for harvesting abandoned webs and making spider-silk thread. Persona notes,
Having walked into so many webs, I know how unbelievably strong and stretchy their threads are. Spider silk, in fact, is the strongest fiber ever discovered. Spider silk is stronger than steel, for its diameter; that is, a thread of steel would be weaker than a thread of spider silk of the same size.
That is absolutely wild. I cannot believe the stunning work that was done with the orb webs.
