Victoria Crowder Payne invites your support for creating the Sinister Stitch exhibit and documentary. Her Kickstarter site describes the exhibit:
A mixed media embroidered collection consisting of 13 ancient poisonous botanicals anchored by a central personification of the Mandrake Root’s fabled consort: the Womandrake. (Additionally, the Sinister Stitch poisons are Monkshood, Wolfsbane, Foxglove, Poets Narcissus, Black Hellebore, Snakeroot, Moonseed, Angel’s Trumpet, Rosary Pea, Hemlock, and Oleander.)
By combining mixed media techniques and dimensional embroidery on both paper and fabric, the collection challenges our assumptions of what embroidery must be. Additionally, the Womandrake at 3 1/2 ft tall demonstrates the potential for hand embroidery to be both dynamic and imposing.
And of the Sinister Stitch Chronicles:
Web-casts beginning July 2011 that detail creating the exhibit and the documentary film project (scheduled for release in December 2011). As a whole, the Chronicles present an intimate look at the conception, development, and completion of the Sinister Stitch Exhibit, following the journeys of conceiving each piece, then manifesting and delivering the work. Importantly, the story examines the life stresses of manifesting creativity amidst some of life’s cruelest challenges (including candid discussions of how the Sinisters as a focal object were crucial in my 2010 battle against kidney cancer).
You’ve seen Victoria’s work many times–on feeling stitchy, MrXStitch, and the Hand Embroidery Network. Take this opportunity to support the development of her unique needleart project. Or just enjoy following along through Facebook, Kickstarter, or her Freedom of Stitch blog. Just know that she has 22 days to raise $10,000 if the project is to be funded, and the count as of this posting was $1,300.

Thank you SO MUCH for this feature! It’s taking us all together, but this project is really inspiring people across age, gender, and craft type! Though I haven’t been solo featured by feeling stitchy or Mr Xstitch (yet!) they have been HUGE influences on my own perceptions of what stitch can be (as Craft Gossip has in so many ways!)I’ve just been booked in the coming days for several appearances including Artistically Speaking radio, and in the C&T Publishing Wednesday Digital Lounge so I’ll continue Spreading the Sinister Embroidery Love far & wide!!! Keeeeep Stitching — and THANK YOU ALL!!
