For years, now, my friend Kimberly has been a swap goddess. I watch from a slight distance as she adeptly invites, organizes, and conducts craft swaps with cyber friends from around the globe. Some of her swap buddies have become her personal friends over time. I’m awed by her energy and creativity, and I’ve been amazed by the enthusiasm of the swappers.
It looks as if Kimberly was on the cutting edge of a huge trend that now has ever-improving venues and tools by which potential swappers can connect with one another. One of those swap hubs is Swap-bot, a site that claims it offers “the easiest way to create and join swaps on the Internet.” Top swaps for October 1 included exchanges of ATCs, postcards, Christmas cards, and pen pals. More pertinent to Needlework News are categories of swaps for fabric and various needle arts. (Be sure the check out the Crafts category.) There are swap groups, discussions, pod casts. You can even tag your flickr photos with “swapbot,” and they’ll show up in the rotating display on the site’s home page. I haven’t tried to join yet, but it sure looks as if Swap-bot is the happening place.
If you’re interested in learning more about exchanging needlework with others around the world, check out Swap-bot.
And many thanks to Melissa of My Half of the Brain blog for spreading the word about this resource.
