Tutorial: Basic Bead Embroidery

May 10, 2010 by Denise Felton 1 Comment

LollyChops has posted a quick guide to basic bead embroidery. If you’ve never tried adding beads to an embroidery project, Lolly will take away your fears. See the tute.  (This blog no longer exists, but we were able to link to the captured archive here. )

There are a few basic things you need to know before beginning bead embroidery:

-Beads come in a variety of sizes, so be sure to select the right ones for your project. The smaller the bead, the easier it will be to see and work with.

-Beads can be worked with a variety of stitches, so be sure to experiment and find the ones that work best for your project.

-It is important to keep your stitches tight so the bead won’t pull away.

Here are a few easy tips to get started:

1. Choose the right stitch. There are a variety of stitches you can use to embroider with beads, from simple straight stitches to more complex stitches. Experiment to find the one that works best for your project.

2. Keep your stitches tight. Be sure to keep your stitches tight so the bead will stay put. This will help to prevent the bead from falling off the needle.

3. Choose the right fabric. You will need a fabric that is strong enough to handle the weight of the beads and the stitches.

4. Keep a bead needle handy. A bead needle is a special needle designed specifically for bead embroidery. It has a small eye at the end of the needle that makes it easy to thread the beads onto the needle.

Here are a few more tips to help you get started:

1. Choose the right thread. Always use a thread that is the right size for the beads you are using.

2. Choose the right fabric. Make sure the fabric you are using is strong enough to handle the weight of the beads and the stitches.

3. Choose the right stitch. Experiment to find the stitch that works best for your project.

4. Keep a bead needle handy. A bead needle is a special needle designed specifically for bead embroidery. It has a small eye at the end of the needle that makes it easy to thread the beads onto the needle.
