Tutorial: Cat and pup softies from socks

February 23, 2013 by Denise Felton 1 Comment

kennel

Here’s a perfect use for orphan socks: Make a whole kennel full of sweet kitty and puppy softies! Star-Shaped and Shiny blog says,

This is another simple, affordable, and quick craft that is a terrific way to spend a rainy day with older children. You will require:

a pair of women’s ankle socks (ideally fresh!)
a little hollow fibre filling
Embroidery threads and felt scraps

When selecting socks for your cat or dog, look for a pair with a basic repeated pattern (flowers, stripes) that is patterned all over the foot. Many socks only have the pattern on the top of the foot, not the sole, and the sole will be the most visible portion of your toy, forming the rear of the animal.

This article will first demonstrate how to construct a cat, followed by modifications.

Basic sewing and embroidery skills–and a lot of imagination–are all you need. See the tutorial.
