Tutorial: Susan Lenz style

May 1, 2010 by Denise Felton 2 Comments

Remember Susan Lenz‘s gorgeous Windows series? Susan left a lovely comment on that post that I don’t want you to miss. She said,

These pieces were really fun to create and I plan on making more. In the spirit of sharing, I once wrote a tutorial on how this technique is done. It is here: http://artbysusanlenz.blogspot.com/2007/07/how-to-make-in-box.html

That’s right. She takes us through each step of creating these amazing fiber artworks. It’s an intense process and I have no hope that my results would compare to Susan’s art. But it’s completely fascinating to see how she is producing this work. And if you’re braver than I am, you can try it for yourself!

Thank you so much, Susan!

    Hi!
Thanks so much for sharing this with others! I absolutely love melting polyester fibers. There’s something really amazing about them. Just yesterday my husband and I bought a Team USA soccer shirt for our elder son. Nike designed ten World Cup team jerseys using only 100% recycled materials…..plastic bottles from Korean and Japanese landfills. Don’t get me wrong, I’m definitely in love with natural fibers, vintage household linens, and all sorts of other fabrics; but, polyester is simply HOT….and melt-able. It’s fun! Thanks!
    Susan
