Jeanine in Canada (Italian Needlework) has posted about raffia embroidery, a needlecraft that makes me happily nostalgic. Somewhere in the depths of my cabinets are some little bread baskets with adorable, plump vegetables embroidered in bright raffia (much like the petals on the bag in the top photo) — mementos of my childhood, I think. So I was surprised by Jeanine’s discovery that raffia embroidery is not only still current but also haute. This Fendi bag (bottom photo), embroidered with raffia and silk ribbon, is from the spring 2010 line. Gorgeous. Find out more from Jeanine’s blog post.
