Victorian Tufting Embroidery – DIY Tutorial

October 16, 2020 by Claudia Porter Leave a Comment

Have you ever heard of victorian tufting?  I know that I had not seen it before, but I sure am intrigued.  Along the lines of turkey work, or the Ghiordes knot, it’s basically fluffy embroidery work and it looks like loads of fun!   Just think of all of the dimension you could add to your projects with this method.  Mary Corbet, of Needle ‘n Thread, takes us through the entire process of this method.

This thorough tutorial has detailed, close up, photos of each step which make it look easy. There are also links to the stitch tutorials that you will need to know.   This does look like a process that will take a bit of time, and to get that fun fluff you will need a special tool.  However, the article guides you through it all.

If you are looking to expand your embroidery knowledge, this is a unique method to add to your repertoire. There are so many ways you could incorporate tufting into a design and, you might even earn some bragging rights in your embroidery circle of friends.
