What do you think of nylon mesh tubes?

January 9, 2012 by Denise Felton Leave a Comment

Carmi of Carmi’s Art/Life World introduces us to nylon mesh tubes, a product that evidently is associated with jewelry making. See her post.

I found a description of Beadalon’s version of the product on their site. It says,

Lightweight, fashionable nylon mesh tubing can be filled with beads, beaded onto using thread, jump rings, wire, and other components, or left empty and used as a stringing material for a pendant. The tubing is puffy and adds dimensional interest to jewelry designs. You can pinch down and section-off pockets in the tubing to fill with beads, or stretch it out for a low profile look.

I’m thinking there are seriously groovy possibilities, here, for embroidery, embellishment, crazy-quilting, beading… It looks as if it’s available in a rainbow of thread colors and also in metallics. I wonder if it’s soft and flexible enough–like lace tape–to use in silk-ribbon-type embroidery. If you’ve worked with nylon mesh tubes, please share a comment about your experience. Links to photos of your work would be appreciated, too.
