Burdastyle blog is advocating a cause that plucks at my heart – and my fabric-stashing guilt. Most quilters and other textile artists collect fabric compulsively. And we all know what it’s like to discover dreadful impulse buys lurking among our lovely yardages. Perhaps the sale price was just too good to pass up. Or perhaps the fabric was too trendy and is now dated.
You can clear out some space in your fabric closet while contributing to the improved well-being of African women and families. The Burdastyle post points to “Stichting Toekomst Rwanda (Future Foundation Rwanda), a charity set up by a Rwandan refugee in The Netherlands to help underage mothers and children still vulnerable in Rwanda. They’re taught skills and given homes, and…they said they wanted to set up a sewing studio! So in October the charity is taking several sewing machines and a seamstress to train the girls but they’re now in need of fabric and haberdashery donations to take along to them!”
Send your unused fabric where it can do some good: Stichting Toekomst Rwanda, Weipoortseweg 89, 2381 NJ Zoeterwoude, The Netherlands or [email protected].
Thank you, Burdastyle, for raising awareness about this worthwhile cause.

what is the date of this data entry? is the address still current and is the fabric donation site still in operation?

Roylene, this post was published August 26, 2008. I’m sorry I don’t know whether the effort is still ongoing. Since it was being promoted by Burdastyle, you may be able to get current information from the owners of that blog.
