Curl Center Rose Silk Ribbon Embroidery Tutorial

December 10, 2020 by Claudia Porter Leave a Comment

There is something incredibly delicate about silk ribbon embroidery.  Most designs have such depth and beauty to them, and that includes this lovely curl center rose on a stem design from Shawkl Designs.

This detailed tutorial provides photos and instructions for each step of the project.  The entire flower measures about 2 inches, but the designer indicates that it could be made larger by changing the ribbon size used.  She uses 7mm silk ribbon.

You do need to have some silk embroidery knowledge to make the flower, but because of her detailed photos, it should be manageable. There are a lot of steps to this rose, and you do need a couple of helpful tools, like a stiletto to roll the ribbon.

For the stem part of the design, she used a combination of the chain stitch and the single feather stitch, but she says that various other stitches could be used as well.

This lovely rose would be so pretty incorporated in different designs.  You could even make your own bouquet of roses in various sizes.

Looking for a supplier of Silk Ribbon? We love Etsy for finding hand dyed ribbons as well as imported European silk Embroidery Ribbons. You can see the listings here on Etsy.  Why use silk ribbons? While you can use other kinds of ribbon, it’s best to work with silk because It’s lightweight and very fluid and can easily be manipulated into stitches.
