April 4, by Shellie Wilson. Leave a Comment

These letters, cut from 7-count plastic canvas, may be connected to spell out welcome signs, nameplates for children’s rooms, cradle mobiles, gift baskets, party decorations, and a variety of other creative adornments.

But first, what is Plastic Canvas?

Plastic canvas is a type of craft material that is made of stiff, durable plastic in the form of a grid or mesh. It is commonly used for needlepoint, a form of embroidery where yarn or thread is stitched through the holes of the plastic canvas to create designs. The plastic canvas typically comes in sheets or shapes, such as rectangles, circles, or ovals, with evenly spaced holes or perforations.

Plastic canvas is a versatile craft material that can be used to create a wide range of projects, including coasters, bookmarks, ornaments, tissue box covers, and more. It can be easily cut into different shapes and sizes using scissors or a craft knife, and the edges can be finished with decorative stitching or binding.

How do you work with it?

To work with plastic canvas, one typically uses a tapestry needle or a plastic canvas needle, along with yarn or thread. The yarn or thread is threaded through the holes of the plastic canvas, following a pattern or design, to create stitches that form the desired image or design. Plastic canvas can be used with a variety of different stitch techniques, including tent stitch, continental stitch, and cross-stitch, among others.

Why is it popular?

Plastic canvas is a popular craft material for beginners and experienced crafters alike, as it allows for easy counting and precise stitching. It is also a durable material that can withstand wear and tear, making it suitable for functional and decorative items. Plastic canvas is often used in crafting projects that require structure and stability, and it is commonly found in the needlecraft or stitching section of craft stores.
