Are you an experienced embroiderer interested in learning a new embroidery technique? The Casalguidi stitch would be a good one for you, and this detailed tutorial from Needle ‘n Thread demonstrates how it’s done.
This is not a stitch for someone just picking up the hobby. There are quite a few steps to get that dense and high look. As you can see, it is basically a raised stem stitch, however, it is really raised up, giving plenty of definition to a design.
This stitch lends itself well to all sorts of patterns, and would work particularly well with a stumpwork piece.
To get that raised effect, you do need a bundle of strings twisted into a rope, but don’t worry about it. The author explains exactly what you will need to make it.
Mary Corbet, the artist, provides plenty of step-by-step photos to guide you through the process. I love looking at her photos and am continually amazed at the precision and evenness of her stitching.
