How to Stitch a Needlepoint Curve

February 14, 2021 by Claudia Porter 1 Comment

Sometimes it can be a bit tricky to needlepoint a curve on a printed canvas.  It can end up looking a bit choppy or rough.  Luckily for us, this helpful tutorial from Needlepoint for Fun demonstrates six different ways to stitch a needlepoint curve.

These various methods give the maker plenty of options for their project and include the ones listed below.

  1. Zig Zag
  2. Back Stitch
  3. Wrapped Back Stitch
  4. Spiral Satin Stitch
  5. Outline Stitch
  6. Couching

Each method has a brief description, with some of them including directions on how to do it and a photo of the stitch.  The methods that don’t have some instructions have links to tutorials that go into more details.

So many beautiful needlepoint canvases have curvy sections which are an integral part of the design.  It can be a challenge for needlepointers to get those curves just right and this how to guide can help.
