Pam of Pamela Kellogg’s Kitty & Me Designs shares her secrets for hand-dyeing silk ribbon. The materials she uses (except for the silk ribbon itself) are inexpensive and widely available. You can have every color you’ve imagined for your silk-ribbon embroidery or crazy quilting. See the tute.
Looking for a supplier of Silk Ribbon? We love Etsy for finding hand dyed ribbons as well as imported European silk Embroidery Ribbons. You can see the listings here on Etsy. Why use silk ribbons? While you can use other kinds of ribbon, it’s best to work with silk because It’s lightweight and very fluid and can easily be manipulated into stitches.

I have been falling madly in love with silk ribbons used in jewelry lately. I was wondering once they are dyed do you have to worry about them bleeding at all? For instance say someone is wearing a bracelet with a piece of silk in it, they are outside and it starts pouring down rain, would the silk bleed if wet? I’ve never really worked with them to know.
