It’s a good thing there’s no video camera attached to my computer. I would be embarrassed if you could see the happy dance I’m doing right now. Shake shake shake.
And what has given me such joy? A new tutorial by Carol Clasper of A Stitch in Time blog, which tells me everything I need to know about applying Shiva/Markal paintstiks to fabric. I’ve heard so much about them that I ordered a set of these somewhat pricey, oil-paint crayons in basic colors. And then I found – not being adept at drawing or experienced with the medium – I was afraid to use them. Carol explains what’s different about paintstiks, how they affect fabric, how the color can be made permanent, and best of all, how to work with them effectively to produce a variety of effects. I can make or embellish my own fabric designs for quilting or other textile arts. I’d write more, but I have to run to my worktable now and play with my paintstiks. Read Carol’s tute and see if you don’t feel the same way.
