Last week, I mentioned the MrXStitch review of Sue Rangeley‘s book, Embroidered Originals, and the fab giveaway: Anyone who orders the book from Sue’s web site before June 30 is entered into a draw with six prizes of Sue’s original work. I just received a news release from Sue showing these two incredible purses — first and second prizes in the draw. Her release notes
Sue’s embroidered evening bags are in private and public collections around the world. In 1993, during her solo show in Tokyo, one of her evening bags was given to Princess Masako by the Tokyu department store, which was the venue of the exhibition. These two silk evening bags are machine quilted, with hand-painted gold leaves. The floral embellishment combines applique and manipulation, with hand-beading using czech glass and freshwater pearls. The design inspiration is influenced by 1930s flower vases.
These works take my breath away. I fully expect them to be museum pieces some day. To be in the running, order the book directly from Sue’s web site. (Price, including shipping and handling for customers outside Europe, is UK £28, or about US $42.) Remember, the prize giveaway ends June 30; so if you want to order the book, hurry up!
